Skin Colour Editor - Ideas

Post by Monoman » 11 Dec 2014, 02:52

THE COLOUR THEME EDITOR WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE NEXT VERSION OF B-STEP

The new skin editor is pretty awesome if you like to work with your own colour schemes, either because you don't like the original or to fashion B-Step out in a way that makes sense to you with how you work.

This is just my very first idea and learning how to use it. It's pretty simple. Then again I couldn't find a way to save the colour theme and when I loaded a project from the new file browser it changed the colours. Still, easy enough to recreate.

Maybe people can post any new themes they come up with, or comment on the ones that appear here. Maybe even share some files.

I'm going for a more monotone effect with this one. I was going to colour the parts that I use the most (like mute) to stand out a bit, but I didn't get that far. But this looks like it's going to be a lot of fun apart from being powerful enough to come up with some really interesting themes.

This is a theme idea I have created with the excellent new Colour Editor:

Image

I am trying to go for neutral overall, with things like mute and solo standing out a bit more than the rest, obviously. Still finding that a bit hard to do without changing the overall look and feel. But it is working really well and it is very easy to save your preset themes.

Any suggestions welcome! Feel free to post your own stuff in this thread if you have ideas of your own, or would like to ask for certain features.

Second looks good.

I found, in the theme editor, the sequence colors we can not set independently. This would be on my wishlist.

I've changed that last theme very slightly and it makes a lot more sense to me now. Still needs some tweaks, but I'll improve it as I go along. Rather than doing loads of different themes that don't make sense to me, I'd at least like to get one theme where I know where everything is.

Nice one!

I'll add it as one of the standard presets!

Ok?

The Bar Mute colours need to be sorted out as well.

The text is illegible on the far left that says 'Bar' and when you change the mute colours to make it legible, it makes the mutes on the buttons illegible. These need to be decoupled.

One setting for text. One setting for 'buttons', squares, wtf you call them. ;-)

It doesn't work having both tied to each other.

As you can see in my previous screenshot. You can't read the text of the third item down on the far left. This needs to be changed so it can have the same colour text as all the other items. I could change it to fit, but then it is a horrible colour that does not work on the mute buttons.

Ok, tomorrow an beta update with extra colours for the left buttons. One colour for each button or one for all?

Keep it as it is. Just one colour for all the left buttons. Just make it consistent so they all look the same. This is less jarring and distracting.

Image

All these buttons should be consistent. They should have the same background colour. the same text colour. And when highlighted should be the same colours as well. For now it is very close, but just needs that extra, did I say 'consistency'? ;-)

Don't worry too much about it, but little things like this, where you can not read text, say if you change colours with the editor, are very annoying. What is the point of touting your great new colour editor, if there are still problems like this. A small matter, but an important one, I feel.

Maybe I didn't explain very well. It would take me an hour to do screenshots and mockups and there are just so many little issues to sort out.

Everything is fine. I am just raising points. If you need more clarification just ask, and when I am not so tired and have more time I can explain better.

As i see we have exacly one free place in the colour styler for the text colour :-)
Or we use the same colour as for the icons on the right side?

Try going with Text colour for now. See how that works. Not exactly sure what you mean, but yeah, try it with text. Would be good to make use of that extra slot.

Ok, I'm happy with this now, consider it the final version. Just a few tweaks, but it looks pretty good to me.

Here is the code so you can just paste it into the colour editor - quicker than downloading!

Code: Select all

ff180c0c,ff758cd4,ff0a0929,ff779998,ff4d97a8,ff4c7697,ff57686b,ff7b7b7b,ff7f7f7f,ff0d4986,ff080a0b,ff414c54,ff080a0b,ff172e4f,ff0a090b,ff263a71,ff263557,ff161616,ff223c60,ff1b2536,ff362d3b,ff0d0e15,ff3347a0,ffdfce89,ffdfce89,

Here is the file you put in your colours folder if you want to do it the old fashioned way:

Just click on the paintbrush icon:

And paste this code:

Code: Select all

ff435269,ff5084a5,ff161616,ff5e8d9c,ff698992,ff567e92,ff4d798a,ff738e9a,ff618d92,ff2d4863,ff333333,ff7686a7,ff545454,ff3d5883,ff282828,ff333333,ff333333,ff333333,ff191919,ff191919,ff191919,ff1b1b1b,ff141414,ff56879a,ff56879a,
Here:

Much much easier than zipping and dowloading and unzipping and opening the directory etc.

I'll do a 'best of themes' in a zip later, but for now this is just much simpler.

Remember, this will be available in the next version of B-Step.

You can't change the themes with 2.0.2

Just a little taster...

I sometimes do gigs in daylight, so a high-brightness/high-readability theme may be important to me, unless I can control my tools remotely by presets on a controller. I doubt I'm completely alone in that :-)

Gordon, i've started a contrast theme a few months ago. But it burns my eyes away - I need a dark screen ;-)
If you like you can try to optimize this one for your needs:

Just copy this code and past it in the colour theme editor (see: Copy & Paste Themes).

Code: Select all

ff481a05,ff481a05,ff1d0b02,ff4c4a31,ff2a5a2c,ff091a31,ff071629,ff071629,ff071629,ff51637b,ff51637b,ff9197a1,ffc7d0df,ff3f4e5e,ff8ba0b5,ff51637b,ff8ba0b5,ffc7d0df,ff323c4a,ff34444f,ff9299a3,ff6e86a6,ff838383,ffc7d0df,ffc7d0df,
